Zucchini Gratin

Fall is my favorite season in New York City. The air is fresh, crisp and we can spend hours outside just strolling the streets. This Saturday we all went to the Prospect Park farmers market. What a great place to visit with kids!!! Harvest season is still going strong with all the beautiful selection of fall garden gems.

Many recipes this week were inspired by wonderful produce we bought there.

Preheat the oven to 400 Degrees.

Chop a large onion and saute it a moderate amount of olive oil and butter in a saute pan.

Slice 5-6 small zucchinis on diagonal 1/2 inch slices. Once onions are soft, but not brown add zucchinis to the pan and saute for 10-15 minutes till they become tender stir frequently.

Put two table spoons of regular flour, salt stir and add a cup of hot milk. Stir a few more times to make sure that flour is dissolved and a light sauce is created in the pan.
Pour this mixture in the oven prof baking pan sprinkle with a cup of grated Guerre cheese, artisanal bread crumbs and a few pieces of butter.

Place the dish in the oven for about 20 minutes-last few under the broiler. Once the top is browned remove and let stand for 15 minutes before serving.

Enjoy and Happy eating!
